'Collaboration succeeds in growing saline plants using saltwater sources'

"This collaboration marks a powerful step towards a future where technology and sustainability go hand in hand to provide our world with high-quality food," explains Jean-Pierre Coene, CEO of Urban Crop Solutions.

Urban Crop Solutions (UCS), a Belgian vertical farm supplier, and Aixponic, a German aquaponic technology company, together succeeded in the cultivation of saltwater plants using UCS' indoor farming technology. By partially utilizing saltwater sources for irrigation, Aixponic minimizes the use of freshwater, which is crucial in times of water scarcity.

The plants are of high quality, free from contaminants, provide many minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, and are an excellent source of vital iodine.

Jean-Pierre added, "We are delighted that our technology plays a key role in shaping a more sustainable food production for Aixponic and the entire food industry. It demonstrates that innovative solutions are not only the future but also the transformative force of the present."
