Japan: Large mini tomato production base established

Tane Maki Joso, a company that utilizes Dutch-style horticultural facilities, has established Japan's largest mini tomato production base in Joso City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Under the concept of facility horticulture using technology-driven environmental control techniques, Tane Maki Joso produces and sells mini tomatoes. The construction of the production base was completed in late May 2023, and the first shipment of mini tomatoes was initiated.

The large-scale mini tomato production base, completed in February 2023, incorporates three cutting-edge features: greenhouses manufactured by Bosman Van Zaal, an environmentally friendly trigeneration system, and advanced sorting equipment with a capacity of approximately 5 tons per day. "It is a next-generation horticultural facility," says Tane Maki Co.

Furthermore, the facility has introduced environmental control systems. Using computers, it maintains 24-hour control over the temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration, and other environmental factors necessary for growing mini tomatoes. The facility is expected to yield approximately 1,000 tons annually.

Covering an area of approximately 7 hectares, the facility currently employs around 180 people.

Moving forward, Tane Maki plans to establish bases in various parts of Japan and expand the range of cultivated crops. They aim to contribute to sustainable agriculture and regional revitalization.
