The 12th annual Women in Agribusiness (WIA) Summit in Nashville from September 26-28 promises enlightening content, networking opportunities, and special events. The summit’s comprehensive agenda will cover topics such as “The Policy Landscape,” “The Power of Bio-based Crop Solutions,” “U.S. Farmland Values,” and “Transformation in Transportation.” Attendees can also look forward to exclusive tours, WIA MeetUps, and skill-building workshops, although it’s worth noting that these require additional registration and have limited availability.
A summit highlight will be The Radicle Inclusion Challenge Presented by Nutrien. Making its debut at the WIA Summit, this challenge aims to support food and agtech entrepreneurs, especially those identifying as female and BIPOC, those from groups historically underrepresented in agriculture, or those dedicated to diversity inclusion. The challenge emphasizes the promotion of a sustainable food value chain. Four panelists can pitch their innovative agtech products or solution during the WIA Summit’s Pitch Day. Two winners will be selected, sharing the grand prize of $1.5 million.
The summit’s special activities start with a members-only night out at the Listening Room Cafe, offering live music and networking opportunities. Meggie Palmer, founder and CEO of PepTalkHer and a keynote speaker at the WIA Summit, will lead a workshop titled “Negotiate Like A Pro.” Palmer plans to share strategies for effective negotiation, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes. Another workshop, “Media Training: Connecting With Your Audience,” will equip participants with best practices for media outreach and on-air interviews.
Attendees will also have the chance to tour Taylor Farms, a cutting-edge packaging plant in Smyrna. This facility prepares some of America’s most-loved salads and fresh foods. The tour will provide insights into their daily operations, which include packaging 7,500 salad cases and processing over 30,000 fruit bowls. Another tour option is the Hatcher Family Dairy Farm in College Grove, Tennessee. This farm, spanning over 500 acres, has been operational since 1831 and has seen six generations of the Hatcher family. The farm’s operations include a veterinary clinic, mobile vet service, and a creamery.
The summit offers a hands-on class for those with a sweet tooth, where participants can make and savor Nashville’s official candy, Goo Goo Clusters. This candy, a delightful mix of caramel, marshmallow nougat, fresh-roasted peanuts, and real milk chocolate, has a rich history dating back to 1912.
