US: Jamestown explores filling vacant Concord office building with vertical farming operation

If Atlanta real estate investor Jamestown LP had its way, it would fill the vacant 300,000-square-foot office building at 2000 Clayton Road in Concord with — you guessed it — office tenants. But in the absence of demand for office space, the company is exploring alternative options.

Jamestown approached the city last month to inquire about using the entire building for a vertical farming operation, Concord staff confirmed Thursday. Jamestown made the inquiry on behalf of an unidentified vertical farming company, staff said, adding the city remains unaware of the company’s identity and that no formal application has yet been submitted.

Longtime tenant Bank of America, which built the 15-acre office campus that includes the six-story office building in the mid-1980s, vacated the building earlier this year and plans to let its lease there expire this summer. Jamestown has previously asked the city about converting the property into housing or, alternatively, lab space. The investor could not immediately be reached for comment.
