J.P. Morgan Private Capital has announced the appointment of Alex Bell as a Partner of its Sustainable Growth Equity (SGE) platform. With nearly two decades of private equity experience and a focus on energy and climate technology, Alex Bell will be based in New York and support the platform’s climate solutions investing efforts. Before joining J.P. Morgan, Bell held positions at Tikehau Capital, Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ), Pine Brook Partners, Cadent Energy Partners, and Lehman Brothers. Tanya Barnes, Managing Partner and Co-Global Head of Sustainable Growth Equity at J.P. Morgan Private Capital praised Bell’s pragmatic and values-driven approach to investing. In addition, she noted his years of multi-asset class sustainable investing experience and highlighted their solid professional relationship for nearly two decades. Bell’s appointment further strengthens the platform’s commitment to advancing sustainable development and climate action.

Established in 2021, the Sustainable Growth Equity platform is part of J.P. Morgan Chase’s pledge to target over $2.5 trillion within a decade to advance sustainable development and climate action. The firm also committed to co-investing alongside Project Black, an Ariel Alternatives private equity fund aimed at closing the racial wealth gap by investing in minority-owned middle-market businesses. J.P. Morgan is anchoring SGE’s first sustainability investment strategy with an investment of up to $150 million, marking one of the most significant capital commitments ever made into an alternative investment strategy.

Robert L. Greene, CEO of the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC), commended the quality, experience, and diversity of the SGE investment team. He noted that among large asset managers, J.P. Morgan had formed one of the most diverse investment partnerships in growth equity. Bell’s appointment adds to this diversity and demonstrates the platform’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and sustainable investment landscape.
