UK: Eviction-hit Covid couple ordered to leave council allotment

“We were struggling with the money. By the time I paid my bills we were left with £100 and that’s all I could pay them.

“The council says the total was due in October, but we didn’t get the bill. Money is tight because we are on benefits. They’ve never moaned any other time. It takes us a while to pay it but it’s always paid before January.

“The council has only been like this since Darren tried to put a claim in when he broke his ankle on the pathway.

“The allotment is really important for Darren. He comes down here and it’s his little safe haven. In the summer we are down here all day, every day.

“With Darren having PTSD this is the only place he will come. He has been so upset over the last few days, he has turned around and said ‘if you take my garden away from me I am going to commit suicide, you will find me in the gardens with my birds’. I am really worried now.
