FAO: How to build sustainability and prosperity in fruits and vegetables food systems

Organic and agroecological growers tell their stories, 2 December 2021 | 14.00 –15.30 CET

The Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and IFOAM – Organics International, in support of the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021.

Organic and agroecological fruits and vegetables growers provide excellent examples of how it is possible to produce nutrient-rich foods in a sustainable way, protecting the environment, growing biodiversity, preserving the soil, and mitigating and adapting to climate change. Organic and agroecological producers build sustainable and inclusive value chains for a better quality of life for family farmers and their communities. They generate income, create livelihoods, improve food security and nutrition, and enhance resilience through sustainably managed local resources and increased agrobiodiversity.

The webinar will showcase organic and agroecological successful growers’ experiences, from different continents. Their stories could be an inspiration for farmers organizations, civil society and United Nations agencies on how is possible to build sustainability and prosperity in the food systems, from farm to table, valuing the research experience carried out or led by farmers and their organizations.

This virtual event will be an excellent opportunity also to inform the audience of a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between FAO and IFOAM – Organics International.

Interpretation will be available in French and Spanish.
