Shreveport Green’s Fall Fest on the Farm on Friday will take the first step in realizing the dream of turning three acres of vacant property into an urban farm that produces fruit and vegetables for downtown Shreveport.

“Shreveport has a total of 19 food deserts within the city limits, ranks high in degenerative diseases and has very little green infrastructure to speak of,” Urban Farm Director Lauren Jones said. ” We hope that the urban farm will not only improve the health and education around food, but also provide a place for building community connections through food.”

The public is invited fo witness the first tree planting as well as enjoy crafts, face painting, pumpkins and refreshments provided by MS Kick and Vegans on the Run. There will be booths for games and pumpkin decorating.

The Second Line Brass Band will perform throughout the event and include a parade around the block with the public for a community blessing around 4 p.m.

Mobile Market will be selling affordable, farm fresh food, while supplies last, and Steven Kennedy from Steve’s Snaketuary will be showing off his rescued pet snakes.
