UK: ‘Pull your finger out, Government!’ Carol Klein wants ‘allotments for all’

Carol Klein called on the Government to allow everyone access to community gardens in a bid to help mental and physical health, and to get people back in touch with nature.

As an avid gardener, Carol Klein, 75, is passionate about everyone, no matter where they live, having access to some sort of outside space, whether it be a communal garden or their own allotment. So she’s called on the Government to sort it out in a bid to encourage adults and children to get back in touch with nature.

In a new interview, Carol, who hosts Channel 5’s Great British Gardens, spoke about how gardening has proved to improve our health, which became an important part of people’s lives over the past year throughout the coronavirus lockdown.

But not everyone had the luxury of enjoying outside space, except for going on their daily walk.

“For many, that opportunity is limited or non-existent,” she shrugged.

“Yet gardening and growing are in our DNA.”

She explained that it’s time that we “reinstate our right to grow and cultivate”, noting how the pandemic has shown how vital and important it is to connect with nature and our Earth.
