The City of Mississauga is gathering input on the development of an Urban Agriculture Strategy through an online survey that launched on Monday, April 12.

The city says the strategy will help “identify the City’s role in supporting efforts to increase urban-scale food production across Mississauga.”

According to the city, urban agriculture is the practice of growing, processing, sharing and distributing food within the urban area. Examples of urban agriculture can include growing fruits, herbs and vegetables, nurturing pollinator habitats and selling artisanal products.

The strategy will help Mississauga mitigate and adapt to impacts of climate change by “enhancing community-level resilience and preparedness.”

The city also adds it will encourage healthier lifestyles among residents, and provide opportunity for those who are interested to learn new skills about growing and harvesting produce.
