Gardens are in. Grass is out.

Webinar on Thursday, December 3, 12:30-1:00 PM to talk about lawns and edible landscaping

Join Emma Layman, Dani McLean, Dylan O’Neill, and Joshua Yuen-Schat for a 20-minute presentation and 10-minute discussion on all things lawns and edible landscaping. They will be discussing why lawns should be converted to gardens, how non-profits and businesses can “turn up the turf,” and the role of cities in the lawn-to-food movement as a way to celebrate their year-long Capstone Project with Boundless Landscapes.

The graduate students will also unveil an open source website called Turnip the Turf that individuals and organizations can use to become further engaged in the lawn-to-food movement.

Boundless Landscapes

We piloted Boundless Landscapes in the Table Mesa neighborhood of Boulder, Colorado, in 2019—exploring and testing our model and building community around our broader vision. We farmed five residential yards and one larger church plot during the 2019 growing season with the help of a founding group of teen farmers.

Each residential micro-farm consists of approximately 96 square feet; the community micro-farm is approximately 1,500 square feet. We return one portion of the harvest to homeowners through a CSA-style model; the second portion is donated to food relief organizations. The remainder is offered as affordable hyperlocal produce through a farmstand run by teen farmers and through an emerging wholesale program. .
