Excerpt:

Earthjustice’s Sustainable Food & Farming Program team is partnering with the New York City Community Garden Coalition (NYCCGC) to establish the legal protections that community gardens deserve. We are petitioning the City of New York to designate community gardens as Critical Environmental Areas under the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act. This designation will help to ensure that gardens continue to serve and benefit their communities, and it will recognize the value of community gardens — and their gardeners — to the spirit of New York.

Hear from community gardeners in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens, and Manhattan on what these greenspaces mean to them. (Most interviews took place prior to the pandemic. Recent photos were made at safe social distances.)
