“Our current circumstances have brought food security to the forefront in Namibia. We have to start today, and with this initiative, we can make a difference in our communities. This includes residents learning and practising skills to empower themselves and others. To those who benefited here today, go out there and teach others too,” he said.

Demonstrations on how to prepare soil beds, replant seedlings, tend to plants and create low-cost water systems were conducted. Beneficiaries were given seedlings sponsored by Good Food Namibia, as well as compost, manure, coco peat soil and basic training.

Mechanisms were put in place to monitor the gardens, and more seedlings will be distributed to beneficiaries who are successful with their gardens.

Manfried Likoro of Food Namibia said they will be following up with beneficiaries regularly.
