Agrotopia, a state-of-the-art greenhouse perched atop the REO Auction’s warehouse, is at the forefront of agricultural innovation. This facility, spanning 6,000 m², is not merely a structure but a beacon of progress in vertical horticulture aimed at maximizing space efficiency in the sector.

Sustainable Cultivation at Its Core

In collaboration with Agrotopia, Urban Crop Solutions is developing a vertical cultivation system designed to revolutionize how we think about farming in confined spaces. “The vertical cultivation system we’re implementing is designed to maximize the use of space while ensuring that we can control environmental factors more efficiently,” stated Jean-Pierre Coene, CEO of Urban Crop Solutions. This system, featuring three towers with 18 moving tables each, leverages natural sunlight augmented by dynamic LED lighting, embodying a blend of innovation and sustainability.

Research Meets Practical Application

The project’s ambition extends beyond mere cultivation. It aims to serve as a foundation for comprehensive research into the cultivation of strategically important crops. “Our objective is to refine cultivation techniques for crops that are vital to both greenhouse and urban horticulture, thereby enhancing the support we provide to our growers and stakeholders in these sectors,” explained Maarten Ameye, research leader at Inagro.
