According to Erik Wikström of Wivid, today’s energy costs are often a major factor in deciding if a grower can compete in the market or not. That is why Wivid designs their products with energy efficiency in mind.
Recently, the company launched a dynamic spectrum version of one of their top lights, the Modus, also lovingly known as ‘Big Boy.’ With this updated version, the large top light aims at laboratories and vertical farms that want to have the possibility to change the spectrum of the light.
“Our products are characterized by high energy efficiency and focus on purpose. We only use high-quality components for LED chips and drivers to ensure efficiency and a long lifetime. Our top lights, for example, have a minimalistic design, while several other manufacturers have very large fixtures creating shadows on the crops. This is just one example of how we think,” Erik says.

According to Erik, recent developments in the horticulture industry are at an interesting stage, and there is a lot of room for more technical development of the lighting products used by growers. Not only that but by offering their products, Wivid aims to provide CEA growers with an alternative to the few big manufacturers for lighting.
“When we developed our lights, we looked at the different applications and optimized the products with the customers in mind and maybe not so much the existing market situation. For example, most of our products have a separate LED unit and driver, allowing the fixtures to be easily installed and maintained instead of having to return the whole product for repairs which can be a hassle.”

Today, the company has a full range of grow lights for most applications, like veg & flowers in greenhouses, vertical farms, or even laboratories. The range of their lights goes from 2,8umol up to 3,6umol/J depending on the spectrum, and they have proven to pay back in about 2-3 years in most European countries.
