lthough the temperatures weren’t perfect on Monday evening, a couple from Winnipeg paid a visit to the Community Garden in Bankview.

Cathy Cook and Justin Metzger have a love of gardening and offer insight on gardening in a zone 3 environment, which Drumheller is also in, through their website. Zone 3 is determined by temperature and to be in a zone 3 climate, the minimum average winter temperature ranges from -34C to -40C. They are speaking with numerous community garden participants on their way to Victoria. Cook shares on why they decided to embark on this garden visiting journey.

“Honestly, we have a dog with anxiety, we can’t leave alone when we go on vacation, so we were trying to plan an outdoor vacation. July, last year, I started visiting gardens around Winnipeg, and decided we would take that across Western Canada and see if anyone would respond to my emails. Everyone did, which was so shocking. We’re visiting community, private, and public gardens on our way to Butchart Gardens in Victoria.”

Mother nature didn’t make it easy for them getting to Drumheller with the rain on Sunday. “It rained a lot on the highway yesterday,” shared Cook. “That was quite the tumultuous drive for a bit there,” noted Metzger. Both have noticed that all they have met so far have been very welcoming. “It’s been super nice to see how overly friendly and enthusiastic everyone has been,” comments Metzger.
