In response to the call from Prime Minister Kishida to promote the cultivated meat industry, the Japan Association for Cellular Agriculture (JACA) recently gathered key stakeholders to focus on the development of ‘Made in Japan’ or ‘Wagyu-like’ lab-grown meat. This ambitious move aims to accelerate the country’s position in the evolving global cellular agriculture industry.

PM Kishida’s intent to support the industry has stirred positive vibes in the cellular agriculture community. Recognizing the global trend toward sustainable and environmentally friendly food production, the PM’s decision aligns with international efforts to meet the mounting demand for protein while mitigating the environmental impacts of traditional animal farming.

The JACA-led meeting brought together various stakeholders, including scientists, industry leaders, policymakers, and investors, fostering a comprehensive and cohesive approach to this groundbreaking endeavor. Their collective goal is to engineer Wagyu-like meat in the lab, harnessing the global reputation of this premium Japanese beef for its exceptional quality and taste.
