The International Alliance for Phytobiomes Research has warmly welcomed FarmBox Foods as a sponsoring partner, promising to accelerate the sustainable production of food, feed, and fiber worldwide. The Alliance, known for coordinating national and international research projects on phytobiomes, looks forward to FarmBox Foods’s expertise.

Phytobiomes refer to a plant growing in a specific environment or biome and all the geophysical and biological components interacting with the plant. FarmBox Foods, a Colorado-based company, is known for its innovative approach to sustainable farming. It takes upcycled shipping containers and transforms them into controlled-climate container farms where various plants, including mushrooms, leafy greens, culinary herbs, microgreens, and peppers, are sustainably grown.

The company’s ground-breaking production solution efficiently allows local communities to grow healthy food with low energy and water usage. The company also leads the charge in producing livestock fodder in containers, which holds significant promise for the livestock industry.

“We are thrilled to have FarmBox Foods join the Alliance,” said the Alliance Executive Director, Kellye Eversole. “Their innovative container farms are a perfect example of a phytobiome. FarmBox Foods’ expertise will be an invaluable addition to our scientific Coordinating Committee, helping us advance our understanding of the various components impacting plant production in a closed environment and in the field.”

Joseph Cammack, Executive Vice President at FarmBox Foods, will join the Alliance Coordinating Committee and the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Working Group. The group’s mission is to identify significant CEA challenges that could be addressed by phytobiomes research.

“The work that the Phytobiomes Alliance is doing is critically important as our world population surges and sustainable food production becomes more of a priority,” said Cammack. “We are delighted to be involved in research that helps overcome challenges in our space and strengthens our industry as a whole.”
