Orkin, a leading pest control service and protection provider, has recently announced the creation of the Orkin Professorship in Urban Entomology at the University of Georgia. The endowment was established to enhance the entomology program at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES).
The new professorship will allow Orkin to support transformative research that will help UGA faculty in urban entomology become leaders in their field. It will also enable the university to produce world-class research efforts in urban entomology and develop sustainable pest management solutions.

Place. “This new professorship will enable CAES to keep conducting world-class research efforts in urban entomology and creating sustainable pest management solutions in the Southeast and around the world.” CAES thanks Orkin for their dedication to our entomology initiatives that benefit persons, growers, and industry.”
Orkin has a longstanding partnership with UGA’s CAES Department of Entomology. The endowment will support the department’s efforts to train the next generation of entrepreneurs and industry leaders, produce world-class research in urban entomology, and develop sustainable solutions for pest management in the Southeast and beyond.

The Orkin Professorship in Urban Entomology is one of the most distinguished posts at the university and CAES, and establishing named faculty positions is one of the college’s top goals. The faculty member uses this title when speaking at conferences and seminars, in official correspondence, and their credentials for webpages and other publications.
Daniel Suiter, the recently appointed Orkin Professor of Urban Entomology, has been recognized globally for his achievements and leadership in urban entomology extension. With a 90% Extension appointment, Suiter’s primary job is to provide ongoing education to the structural pest management business and serve as a technical resource for Georgia Agriculture and Natural Resources agents. His career-long contributions to the pest control business and Cooperative Extension have had a tremendous influence, resulting in good instructional programs trusted by industry experts, regulatory authorities, and legislators.
Orkin’s establishment of the Orkin Professorship in Urban Entomology is expected to pave the way for new research partnerships that advance the pest control industry, create new businesses, and generate new jobs.
