US (VA): New Lynchburg vertical farm grows over 170 plant varieties

Working to bring you the best strawberries, cilantro, peppers, spinach, and more, that's the goal of Agria in Lynchburg. "We are starting right here in Lynchburg, but that is just the beginning," said William Layton, Founder of Agria.

Agria is a new agriculture-technology company. "By being able to grow just like nature intended, I've formed over 170 different varieties of plants in here. We've even fooled around with some fruit trees too," said Layton.

Layton grew up and has lived all around the world. He first gained notoriety by growing giant pumpkins, winning the state record in Virginia at 1138 lbs. Since then, he has worked to make his passion a reality.

Layton says that over the last 20 years, he's worked to invent an all-natural, organic farming system to improve sustainable agriculture technology everywhere. "I can't go on and tell you exactly what I'm doing here. It's the secret sauce. We are able to grow crop, after crop, after crop, after crop," said Layton. You've probably tasted Agria's produce if you've been to restaurants around town.

"We want that flavor action. We want to give full flavor. We want to give that wow factor. I think in order to do that, you have to consider what is the true flavor of the product. We want our consumers to experience that. We want it to be next level," said Candance Vinson, the Director of Culinary Innovation for Hen & Hound Culinary Management.
