French greentech company Carbon Maps banks a 4M euro seed funding round led by Breega & Samaipata to launch its carbon data platform to the agro-industry. As the Eco-Score plans to be mandatory from January 2024, the startup vows to help companies in the agro-food industry leverage its platform and facilitate the evaluation of their impact on the environment.
Patrick Asdaghi, a serial entrepreneur and the creator of FoodChéri and Seazon, Jérémie Wainstain, a polytechnician and doctor of physics; and Estelle Huynh, a former COO of Mojix and a specialist in SaaS platforms for industrial supply chains, are the three trained engineers at the helm of Carbon Maps. A multidisciplinary scientific committee, including experts in data, biodiversity, and agriculture like Benoît Gabrielle, a professor at AgroParisTech and researcher in the Functional Ecology and Ecotoxicology of Agroecosystems laboratory, and Christian Huygue, Scientific Director of Agriculture at INRAE, surrounds the founding team.
Carbon Mapping uses information from IPCC reports and INRAE numbers to create impact models for the entire chain. The application can evaluate the environmental impact of goods, components, or raw materials thanks to scientific models and artificial intelligence algorithms.
