Canada: Growing in the City Grants in Victoria BC

The City offers grants to support a variety of gardening activities that benefit the community.

The Growing in the City Grant Policy guides the management of grants that impact and support urban agriculture programs and activities, including community gardening, boulevard gardening, food tree stewardship, and Victoria’s seedling and garden material distribution program, Get Growing, Victoria!

Grants under this policy include:

Community Garden Start-Up Grant
Growing in the City Micro Grant
Growing in the City Volunteer Coordinator Grant
Get Growing, Victoria! Service Grant

Community Garden Start-Up Grants are available to eligible organizations to support in the design, planning, engagement and construction of new community gardens in the City of Victoria. The various types of community gardens and eligible activities are defined in the Community Garden Policy. [PDF – 206 KB]

The Community Garden Start-Up Grant is available in two phases:

1) up to $5,000 for the design phase
2) up to $10,000 for the build phase

The Community Garden Start-Up Grant prioritizes support for neighbourhoods without existing community gardens, higher density neighbourhoods and the development of new allotment gardens.

The annual intake for the Community Garden Start-Up Grant opened on September 13, 2022 and will close on October 22, 2022. Successful applicants will be informed in December 2022.
