In Sichuan Province, some residents are experiencing life in the countryside at the city’s parks. Guo Tianqi has more.

May is the season for mulberries in China. But this scene of the harvest is inside a park in the city, not a field in the countryside.

Sichuan is one of the cradles of silk culture. Silk from the provincial capital Chengdu became famous nationwide as early as 2,000 years ago. And mulberry leaves are the main food for silkworms.

The mulberry grove inside this ecological park has become a place for parents to bring their children to learn about workers’ contributions to the country, as well as history during the May Labor Day holiday. No pesticides are used here, so children can taste the fruit right off the tree.

“Mulberries should be picked when they are soft and purple, it’s absolutely delicious. I have also raised silkworms. Every silkworm can eat three or four mulberry leaves a day.”

“My grandma is a farmer. She grows a lot of vegetables. I also helped her with harvesting. This kind of activity relaxes me. I am very happy to come here with my family.”
