NEWARK, NJ — Sen. Cory Booker recently dropped in for a visit at an urban farm in Newark’s South Ward.

Booker, a Newark resident and one of New Jersey’s most well-known vegans, took a tour of the Hawthorne Avenue Urban Farm and Youth Farm Stand earlier this week.

During his visit, Booker discussed urban farming and community gardening, then met with volunteers, community gardeners, and the staff who help the local farm thrive.

“Accessing fresh and healthy produce is easier and more important than ever through our Youth Farm Stand and the Urban Agriculture Cooperative. As part of the Newark community, we strive to provide resources and access to healthy food options, which is why we continue to partner with the Urban Agriculture Cooperative for their online farmers market … Urban Ag Coop is an organization dedicated to connecting local growers to urban consumers to improve and empower the local food economy. The Cooperative Market helps them do this by helping local farmers reach NJ communities and supply them with fresh, delicious and locally grown produce. As part of this partnership, our Hawthorne Avenue Urban Farm will not only supply some of the produce sold online, but our Youth Farm Stand will also be one of the featured pickup locations. Shop for vegetables, greens, and fruit as well as fresh flowers, herbs, baked goods, eggs, and even specialty items like cold relief tea blends and wildflower honey right from your home.”
