QUEZON CITY, Dec. 19 — The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) Urban Agriculture Program with Crop Research and Production Support Division, executed an ocular visit on November 25, 2020, at Technical Education & Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Central Office, Taguig City.

The DA-BPI UA-Team proposed an establishment of a demo-garden in the TESDA Complex with leafy vegetables (pechay, mustard), fruit vegetables (okra, eggplant, kamatis, upo), indigenous vegetables (saluyot and fern), vine (squash, patola), herbs and spices (mayana, talinum, basil, oregano), and root crops (kamote) to plant as these crops are easy to grow and maintain.

TESDA, in partnership with DA-BPI launched the Urban Agriculture project in NCR that concentrates on transforming the pocket vacant spaces in its offices into urban farmsteads in the city.

Through this partnership, DA-BPI commits to provide TESDA technical assistance, initial garden inputs, and farm management guidance to guarantee the project’s sustainability.

The UA Program targets to boost and revitalize urban agriculture in the city, enabling the beneficiaries to adapt vegetable gardening as the family’s source of safe and nutritious food and it is also an eco-friendly means to manage the food and material wastes at home and in the community.(DA-BPI)
