Philippines: 700 Balanga folks in backyard farming

The vision of the leadership tandem of Balanga City Mayor Francis Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gozon promoting community vegetation has so far attracted 700 local folks to delve into backyard farming.

“These new city farmers plant vegetables in their backyard or vacant lot,” said the City Agriculture Office.

“Planting vegetable can be a source of income, or means to protect the environment, to some just a way of exercising, and to others, just to spend time,” the àgriculture office also said in a statement
The city government launched a program feting community farmers dubbed “Farmer of the Week”.


The city’s top two leaders want to recognize the contribution of local farmers to community development and inspire local residents to go into farming.

Members of Sangguniang Panlungsod are fully supporting the city agricultural program.

“The city government is thankful that local residents turn to something productive like vegetable farming during this time of COVID-19 pandemic”, the City Agriculture Office said.
