BETHESDA, Md. (ABC7) — At 17,000 square feet, the Farm at Pike & Rose is the largest rooftop farm in the Washington Metro area and Mid-Atlantic region.

Its first crops were planted in March.

The company turned the space into a productive agricultural site growing greens, root vegetables, herbs, tomatoes, peppers and more.

Most produce grown travels no more than a few blocks from farm to table.

Up Top Acres first partnered with Federal Realty on a 7,000-square-foot rooftop farm at Bethesda Row, bringing fresh produce to Jaleo Bethesda and other local restaurants. After two successful growing seasons, the company expanded this sustainability initiative to Pike & Rose.
