Highlights of the Partnership:

  • Innovative Carbon Removal: This partnership represents Microsoft’s first biochar carbon removal deal in Africa, aiming to scale environmental and social impacts in Kenya.
  • Significant Environmental Initiative: The deal is one of the largest purchases of biochar carbon removal credits from an African project, signifying a major advancement for carbon removal efforts on the continent.
  • Support for Smallholder Farmers: Bio-Logical’s initiative, supported by Microsoft, plans to sequester 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030 and assist 1 million smallholder farmers in building climate resilience.

“We are extremely happy to announce the first biochar carbon removal deal Microsoft has made in Africa. This deal will act as a catalyst, scaling our environmental and social impact in the region,” said Phil Hunter, Bio-Logical Co-Founder.

Aiming for a Greener Future

The collaboration between Microsoft and Bio-Logical is expected to spur green growth in Kenya, addressing both environmental challenges and the agricultural community’s needs. “This is a huge day for Bio-Logical. To have a company such as Microsoft as a customer, who is leading the way regarding meaningful climate action and carbon removal, is a real testament to everything we are building,” said Rory Buckworth, Co-Founder of Bio-Logical.
